Foreign Travel

Foreign travel is a sticky situation in today's world. Underwriters for life insurance companies have found themselves in a difficult position of trying to balance a population of people who like to globe trot, and the real risk of people traveling to risky areas.

Typically you will see the question on the life insurance exam requesting foreign travel plans. I tell my clients that plans typically involve a plane ticket and a hotel reservation. Therefore that wild hair to run with the bulls in Pamplona some day doesn't need to be mentioned unless you have a seat assignment.

But what about someone getting ready to travel to the middle east for a job assignment. Or a missionary getting ready to leave for Haiti. In these cases we are talking about significantly different scenarios and don't put off until the last minute. Securing coverage can sometimes involve negotiations with underwriters and typical timelines take 6 weeks to get coverage secured.

Never the less, you need to pay attention to what your life insurance agent tells you in order to get a policy that can't be contested in case something happens to you far away from home.

If you are planning a trip abroad and want to see if your current policy will cover you. Or don't have coverage at all, call me and we can get some options together for you.
